COVID-19 Message from Leicester City Council

Message from Leicester City Council:

Dear Football Club
We are contacting you to make you aware that following further clarification from Public Health England on government guidance to Team Sports resuming training and matches in the city.

COVID-19.Update Asset owning clubs/organisations with their own facilities or approved Covid secure facilities, within the city boundaries can align to FA guidance, however within a parks setting the Council needs to manage and adhere to government guidelines in relation to outdoor social gatherings, which is restrictions of gatherings of no more than 6 people, from multiple households. Gatherings larger than 6 should only take place if everyone is exclusively from 2 households or support bubbles and must not exceed 30 people. You should always socially distance from people outside of your household.

Therefore, we are unable to allow recreational football to align to FA guidance within a public setting such as Parks, this includes any whole team training or match play.

The City Council will review this position on the 11th September and will communicate any changes then. The City Council will need a minimum of 2 weeks prior to any pitch being ready for match play to ensure all goalposts are up, grass has been cut and lines marked. So it is unlikely that any fixture can be played on a Park pitch prior to the end of September.

We have communicated this decision to the County FA and requested that this is passed on to leagues, so they can programme any fixture away from the City where possible. Your league should be in touch with you to let you know of any changes to scheduled fixtures.

We understand the disruption that this may cause to clubs and teams, however we need to ensure public settings can be controlled effectively in order to ensure public safety and preventing the spread of Covid-19. We do not take this decision lightly and subject to government guidance changing we hope that any disruption is minimised and football can return to Council Parks.

Leicester Nirvana FC
New 1st Team Manager

Leicester Nirvana are delighted to confirm Sam Winch as the new first team manager. Sam is an A licence coach who works at Nottingham Forrest.

We are very excited by this appointment as he will bring great knowledge and direction to drive our youthful side forward.

Sam had the following to say:

‘I am extremely pleased to be taking on the role as manager here at Leicester Nirvana. Having worked with the guys for sometime now over preseason, I quickly recognised that this is a team with a lot of youth and potential. A club with a lot of culture, hardworking volunteers and exciting young talent. As a whole club, they pride themselves on bringing through home grown talent and this season, we hope to see many faces progress from our youth teams up to senior level. Working at Nottingham Forest as an A licence coach (YDP) I hope will bring the level of input to help create a vibrant learning environment.

Time to knuckle down and get ready for our opening game of the season next Tuesday. I look forward to meeting the clubs fans at our first competitive game under lights in the FA Cup, against Oadby.’

We look forward to working with Sam on the next part of our seniors journey.

(The season start on Tuesday 1st September at home, spectators are allowed however due to regulations capacity will be capped at 150).

GIRLS FOOTBALL OVER WINTER - back 11th January 2020

Girls Football will be postponed over December and will return on Saturday 11th January. Due to the unpredictable weather, we are moving Girls Football to the outdoor space at Gateway College behind the sports hall, 17 Colin Grundy Dr, Leicester LE5 1GA, just a few minutes drive away from our Hamilton ground.

There is an all weather pitch that will help the sessions to continue despite showers.

If for any reason the weather makes football unplayable, we will endeavour to put messages on our website, Facebook and Twitter, regarding any cancellations. If there is no message, the session will be taking place.
